Useful Information
- Make sure that you have plenty of time for vaccinations, travel documents and other important matters;
- It is necessary to contact the embassy of the country of destination to receive the correct instructions. There are some countries that impose strict quarantine procedures;
- A label with the animal’s name and instructions on how to feed it must be applied to one side of the carrier;
- t is necessary to accustom the animal to the carrier starting at least 5 days before the flight;
- It is not recommended to give the animal food or water within 2 hours prior to the departure.
Global Moving provides IATA-compliant carriers
For the carrier, please remember that:
- Dogs/cats must be able to stand up with their head held erect (without touching the roof), turn around, and lie down comfortably. The carrier must be made of hard plastic with a recessed metal door. (Wooden carriers or those with plastic doors are not accepted);
- The carrier must be equipped with two empty bowls or a divided bowl for food and water;
- The carrier must have a blanket, newspapers, or other absorbent material at the bottom. Straw is prohibited;
- The carrier must display on the outside at least one “Live Animal” sticker and two “This Side Up” arrows;
- The carrier door must be securely closed, but without locks. Door hinges and locking pins must extend at least 1.6 cm (0.62 in) beyond the horizontal edges of the opening at the top and bottom;
- Wheels must be removed or secured.
Age and Number
- The dog or cat must be at least 10 weeks old;
- Each pet must travel in its own carrier. However, if two dogs or cats of the same size each weigh no more than 9 kg (20 lbs), they may travel together in one carrier. Puppies or kittens under 4 months old may travel in their mother’s carrier.
Documents
- Pet travel documents must be in English. We strongly recommend placing copies of these documents inside the carrier. If the pet is checked in on the same flight as the owner, the owner must carry the original documents for check-in;
- The carrier must have a tag indicating the passenger’s name, address, and phone number;
- A label with the pet’s name must be attached to the side of the carrier.
Physical Conditions
- The animal must not show signs of physical distress, injury, or be under the influence of tranquilizers;
- The animal cannot wear a leash or muzzle.
